A British Columbia Notary Public is a legal alternative for the Practice of Law in specialized areas of the law in BC, involving non-contentious matters. Unlike Notaries in most other provinces, in British Columbia Notary Publics are Members of the Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia, a self regulating body. BC Notaries derive their powers from the legislated Notaries Act of British Columbia. The Society of Notaries Public is currently actively working with the Province of BC and the Attorney General’s Office to revise the Notaries Act(see ACT Changes page)

Why Use a BC Notary?

BC Notaries can play as important a role in your life as do many other specialists such as your doctor, dentist, accountant, or lawyer. This includes assisting you with advice and solutions to the host of legal issues you may encounter throughout your life. You will find that BC Notaries offer an efficient way to deal with many of your legal needs. BC Notaries are professionals who practice within specific, non-contentious areas of the law.

Education of a BC Notary?

In the past few years , the educational requirements and entrance criteria have been substantially increased for a graduating Notary Public in British Columbia, consequently all recently commissioned  BC Notaries  have at least a Bachelor’s university degree and /or the Master of Arts in Applied Legal Studies (SFU).
